Forestry Commission to Award Stimulus Funds for Tree Planting/Public Safety


(Columbia,SC)–-The South Carolina Forestry Commission, in cooperation with the U.S.D.A. Forest Service, is pleased to announce that funds are available through the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act (ARRA) for the Community Forest Health Enrichment Assistance Program.

Whetstone Horse Camp: The Whetstone Horse Campground will be closed

December 7, 2009 until spring 2010 for renovation. The public will be unable to reserve sites at the camp during this time and first come, first served camping will not be available. The day-use parking area on the north side of the road will still be available.

DNR assists Upstate mobility impaired waterfowl hunts

Mobility impaired hunters will be treated to a unique opportunity to attend two draw waterfowl hunts in the Upstate on Dec. 15 and Dec. 17. The hunts will be held at Duncan Creek Waterfowl Management Area (WMA) and the Clinton House Plantation in Laurens County on Dec. 15 and the Tyger River WMA in Union County and Clinton House Plantation on Dec. 17.read more here!


Lewis Ocean Bay Heritage Preserve re-opens to vehicular traffic

Roads at Lewis Ocean Bay Heritage Preserve in Horry County re-opened Dec. 11, 2009. Main roads throughout the Preserve sustained major damage due to recent flooding.read more here!
